Tongkat Ali and Tribulus: traditional herbs for men's vitality
From the rainforests of Southeast Asia to the Mediterranean, these two plants have long been used to support male vitality.
Men's natural testosterone levels gradually decline from around their 30s, and stress, poor sleep and weight gain can all play a part too. Two plants that are often used to support male vitality are Tongkat Ali and Tribulus terrestris.
Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia)
Also called "Malaysian ginseng", this rainforest shrub has been used traditionally in Southeast Asia. Small clinical studies suggest it may support healthy testosterone levels in men with low levels, as well as mood, stress and energy. Some studies also looked at its role in muscle strength alongside exercise.
Tribulus terrestris
Tribulus is a flowering plant found in warm regions around the world. The research on testosterone is mixed, but some studies suggest it may support libido and sexual wellbeing.
The foundations matter most
Research consistently shows these lifestyle habits have a big impact on male hormonal health:
- Sleep 7β9 hours β testosterone is largely produced during sleep.
- Lift weights or do resistance training 2β3 times a week.
- Keep a healthy waistline; excess belly fat is linked with lower testosterone.
- Get enough zinc, vitamin D and healthy fats in your diet.
- Manage stress and limit alcohol.
Tongkat Ali appears in AnaboLean and GynoShield, and Tribulus in AnaboLean and FertilityGene.
